Make-up Face

Apparently I make this face when I put on make-up...

Blue Blankies

Jared says he had a little blue blanket (with Care Bears on it) when he was little. As I have yet to see any pictures or hear any stories for proof, I think he's just trying to get into the club. The blue blankie club. Of which I am sure that I deserve to be president.

This is me with my baby blanket christened Bluie:

Very few blankets have ever been loved (or anthropomorphized) as much as my Bluie. Even then I had pretty much loved it to death. If you saw it now you wouldn't even recognize it as a blanket, and you definitely wouldn't know how it got the name Bluie because pretty much every last scrap of blue cloth is gone. How I loved my blanket!

And so I really love that BOTH my boys have also latched onto little blue blankets.

Before his 1st birthday Luke decided he needed his blue blanket. I'm glad he picked this one because it has some sentimental value for me as well. Right after our 20 week ultrasound (when we found out we were having a boy) we went to Baby Depot to pick out something for a boy-- and I picked this blanket.

Around a year ago (I can't remember exactly when it started), Luke invented a new ritual with his blanket. Before sleeping he spreads it over his pillow (or rather has Jared or I do it because it can't have ANY wrinkles) and sleeps on it.

He eats breakfast with his blanket almost every day:

My absolute favorite thing about Luke's blanket is it's name. About the time Luke's speech started picking up (around a year ago) he started calling his blanket Booky (Boo-kee). It's name is now Eddie Booky (sometimes just Eddie and sometimes just Booky-- but usually both.) Jared says that takes the cake on weird names. I think I agree.

And now Micah has a favorite blue blanket of his own! He picked it out as a favorite a few months ago, and he hates to sleep without it. Micah's understanding of language is picking up, but even last month if asked "Where's Mama?" he wouldn't look for me. But if we asked him, "Where's your Blankie?," he'd start giggling and go searching.

That's a boy in love with his blanket!

Micah loves playing peek-a-boo with his blanket.

But he also likes to pull it over his head and try to walk around. He has had several bruises on his forehead from walking into walls or furniture.

Here's to our blue blankies!

My Dream Home

I look forward to Amarillo. But I REALLY look forward to Dallas where I hope to have:

The Dream (click here)

Drool, Drool, Sigh

Of course it would be a beautiful but practically empty home. And more space than we need. I guess I just dream BIG. But that's allowed. Because everything is bigger in Texas. Even dreams.

Luke's Prayer

Two night ago it was Luke's turn to say the prayer. Every night we remind him how to act before we begin the prayer. It takes longer to prep for the prayer than it does to say the prayer. Luke has to go through a whole slew of questions: "Do we say Bah! during the prayer?" "Do we hit during the prayer?" "Do we scream during the prayer?," etc.

So anyway before he began we reminded him to speak reverently and to be still. He started out great, but then he started talking in nonsense words. I interrupted him and said, "Luke, you need to use real words." He opened his eyes, looked right at me and said, "I'm talking in Spanish." And then he ended his prayer "Jesucristo. Amen."

Jared just grinned!

Hide and Seek

Micah was sick AGAIN all week. He was running a fever between 101-102 degrees from Monday-Friday, so we were stuck at home. We had to find things to keep us all occupied and to keep the boys happy. We played a lot of games, but Luke's favorite was Hide and Seek. The first few times we played Luke hid under the covers on my bed every single time. Then he started to get the idea of trying new hiding places. Only he didn't really understand hiding. He would just sit on the couch or climb on the kitchen table. It was a new place every time, but it was almost always right out in the open. So I told him, "Luke, if you want to be tricky you have to hide under something or behind something so that I can't see you."

He understood the hint to some degree. But it was HILARIOUS to see his follow through. After a few hiding places I had to get the camera.

After a few times of catching me with the camera, Luke decided that he wanted to be IT for a change. He decided that IT got to use the big camera, and he wanted a turn. So here are his shots of me:

Overall it was probably our best sick week. Luke was very understanding about being stuck inside. Micah was okay as long as he had some Motrin. We watched a lot of Baby Einstein and Backyardigans (well only one episode over and over and over), did art projects, built towers with blocks, and read LOTS of books. Micah and I read book after book while Luke was at school. But I sure was glad when the fever broke last night and we could get to the store today!

Pirate Luke loves them.

And Micah agrees.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I hope you got some chocolate!!!

SNOW!

We got snow on Saturday night! We weren't expecting it because the weather has been so nice. Just that morning we had gone to Wal-mart in sweatshirts, but the weather continually dropped all day. And then...snow!

The boys were so excited to go play! I didn't have boots for Micah, but I remembered a picture of myself when I was small wearing bread sacks over my shoes in the snow. I tried to copy the idea and rubber-banded sandwich bags over Micah's shoes.

It didn't work. Every time he took a step he slipped.

This is the little snowman that Luke and Jared built. Luke is working on the head right there:

I wish I had taken a picture of the final product. The head was just about the size of that tiny snowball. Luke was so proud that he made it all by himself that Jared just agreed it was perfect.

He had to see the air conditioners with snow on them!

We gave up with the bags and just let Micah run around and get wet.

Micah loved the snow. He would dart all around just looking and laughing. He fell a few times but jumped right up and kept going. Jared and I fought over who had to follow him. It was tiring work.

Whoever wasn't with Micah was dragging Luke around on a makeshift sled. I grabbed the lid off a storage bin, covered it with a trash bag, and wa-la! We just couldn't pull very hard or fast because there was nothing for Luke to hold on to. I wish I'd gotten a picture!

Doctor Luke

Luke complained about his stomach hurting a few days last week. One of the days he decided that Micah was hurting too. They were watching Baby Einstein, and I was doing something (can't remember what) when I saw Luke marching back to the kitchen with a can of baking powder and announcing that "Luke made Micah all better."

His magic cure?

Dump baking powder all over Micah's back.

It was a little unconventional, but I think Luke must be an unconventional kind of guy.

He has an alternative to kleenex as well.

Just the other day I heard him sniffing and asked if he needed a tissue. He said, "I'll just use my hand." (Swipe). "That's probably better, right?"

The Ankle

I've always known I could never be a nurse or a doctor. The sight of blood makes me light headed and nauseous. I don't like ugly, gore-free injuries either. Bruising, swelling. It all creeps me out. And so this creeps me out!

The night it happened:

A few days later:

You can see why I wanted him to go to the doctor, right?

Duck and Goose

My boys LOVE the Duck and Goose books by Tad Hills. Micah follows me around the house poking me with them (his way of requesting that I read it to him), and Luke has listened to them so many times he can "read" them all by himself.

Here is Luke reading "Duck and Goose Find a Pumpkin."

Heaven and Earth

Luke has been a little bit sick this week. He threw up once on Wednesday-- no symptoms before or after and then again last night. Same thing. Really weird. That isn't really the point of this post. It's just a little background info.

We had this conversation today:

Luke: Is Casey dog in heaven?
Me: That's right.
Luke: Is Luke on earth?
Me: Yes, you are.
Luke: Did Luke throw up on earth?
Me: Um... yes, I guess you did.
Luke: Yeah. I threw up on the earth.

Not exactly sure why, but I found it hilarious.
