Meet Samuel

Samuel William Wilkerson joined our family on August 31, 2017.  He was a good boy and waited for his induction date.  We were nervous he'd come during the wrath of Harvey, but he waited until the rain stopped and we had a clear ride to the hospital.  He was born at 4:02pm, weighed 8 pounds even, and was 21 inches long.

The boys were so excited to meet him.  They came to the hospital in their church clothes.  When we commented to Micah about his outfit he said, "Of course I'm wearing fancy clothes.  It's a hospital!"  And then he shamed Jared for wearing shorts.  I'm not sure where he got the idea that he had to dress up.

Jared's parents flew in a few hours before Harvey arrived.  They were here to ride out the storm with us.  It was their first time seeing a real gullywasher as well as their first (several) experiences of hunkering down in a bathroom to wait for a tornado warning to pass.  It was so nice having them here, especially so that we didn't have to worry at all about Luke and Micah when it was time to go to the hospital.  The boys were in great hands.

Samuel meeting his name sake (William)

Grandma did LOTS of Samuel holding while she was here.

Honestly, I don't know how we'd have gotten through the first week without them.  Grandma and Grandpa made sure I got naps, did all the cooking and cleaning, and helped settle the boys in to their first week of school.  And little Samuel was the best little newborn he could possibly be.  Welcome to the world and to our family, Samuel!

WILKERSON FAMILY REUNION CRUISE

Jared's family went on a cruise to Mexico to celebrate his parents' 50th wedding anniversary.  Jared, Luke, and Micah were able to go on the cruise.  I stayed home with 3 week old Samuel.

The whole family rode a bus to Chichen Itza where they got to see the old pyramids.  The boys were excited to get new hats.  Luke also got a ball of obsidian, and Micah got a glass pyramid model.

One of the highlights of the trip was renting a jeep in Cozumel.  They went on a Jeep tour to different sites.  Luke got to sit in the front seat and help Jared shift gears.  That was definitely the high point of his trip!

On the Jeep tour the guide took them to a bridge that was the site of an old movie.  Crocodiles had been imported for the movie, and after the filming they were left behind to breed.  The boys thought it was pretty cool to see a crocodile.
